This is a fantastic and very comprehensive list of "what does work." You've articulated a lot of floating thoughts I've had, and about half of these strategies were new to me.

Your post crystallized a bigger idea I've been wrestling with. It seems the natural conclusion of your points is a market that's bifurcating into two extremes: the giants who win on data and distribution, and the small players who win by dominating a specific niche. It reinforces my thinking that the path through that middle ground, from niche to scale, has become incredibly difficult.

This leads me to wonder about the conventional wisdom of rapid growth. Do you think a more viable strategy today is for companies to intentionally stay small and patient for longer? In other words, to focus exclusively on building a deep and defensible moat—be it through network effects, a unique dataset, or regulatory barriers—before they even attempt to scale their distribution.

Thanks again for the incredibly thought-provoking read.
